If you are looking to organize your home a little better then the first thing you need to think about is what you are actually trying to achieve. The main reason you should be organizing things is to not only lessen the clutter and allow yourself more space and freedom, it is also to make things more efficient for you.
Tip 1: The organizing of the house starts in the kitchen
Make sure that all your utensil drawers and any other drawers that store tools etc have draw liners in them. These plastic trays help separate the cutlery and utensils as well as keeping them organized and clean.
Tip 2: You are going to need more shelves. The best way to give yourself this extra storage and space is to install shelves yourself. These are inexpensive and most hardware stores sell them in prefabricated packs so that all you need to do is get your 18v cordless drill (a necessity in every home) There is nearly always somewhere to place the shelves in the house.
Got a lot of recipes that need organizing? file them to make it easy for next time or you can take your music and movie collection and put it on the shelves in an order that makes it easier for you to find what you are looking for – which is the whole point of the organizing in the first place right!?
TIP 3: You should really take the ordering of things and go beyond just your music and movie collection, and despite the want to put it all within reach it makes more sense to be honest about what you are reading or using and put everything else away or to the back.
You should use a DVD or CD Storage tower. These are available in a range of styles and prices and can not only add flavour to the look of the living room, it can also help organize things nicely.
Tip 4: You can’t expect to keep everything. Sooner or later you are going to have to start throwing things away, or giving them to charity at least.
Rather than folding, try rolling your clothes as this will reduce wrinkles and fold lines. Then use a vacuum bag and store them clothes under a bed or somewhere that is not taking up valuable space.
Tip 5: Using your power tools to create more space is essential, as is owning your own 18v cordless drill.
Store your pens and pencils in a coffee mug or something and leave them handy by the phone or in the kitchen, or both. There is no point being organized if you cannot then find a pen – something you are always going to need.
Tip 6: be smart about your organization and do it for what is going to work in your life, not the average person – as most tip books are written for.
Throw away that which you are no longer using. This means parting with the 2 years worth of magazines you have next to the couch. Sorry.
Tip 7: space and your organized home
Lock your valuables up and keep them safe. This includes any deeds, mortgage papers, wills – and legal documents basically.
Tip 8:
Give your things that you no longer use to charity. Not only will you get more space back, you’ll feel really good about what you did.
Tip 9:
In order to avoid clutter, it may be necessary to throw away certain types of mail. This may include credit card offers, but don’t just throw them out without first shredding the letters.
Tip 10:
Show some common sense and keep your power chords organised and well away from children etc. Not only is it a tripping and safety hazard, it also just looks messy and takes away from everything we have done so far.
