Many times people will say they want to be independent but in all reality, their actions show otherwise. Back in Bible times, people of Israel begged for a king even though they were warned against it. They took those warnings lightly, and that led to hundreds of years of tyranny.
Although not to the extent, Americans are doing the same thing. We elect power-hungry leaders who want a say in every little detail of our lives. Quite frankly, I for one am sick of it. Why do people not realize the more decisions made by the government means less freedom and less independence?
Today, everything is political and all the necessities of life are being taxed more all the time.
I don’t like how the government is putting its nose in every aspect of life, and it’s even leaking into the world of sports.
In 2005, the U.S. Congress did a big investigation of steroids in baseball. Even though it’s a major issue, it’s one that should have been handled by baseball itself, not our government. Doesn’t the government have other things to worry about, like fighting a war overseas?
It might be acceptable if it stopped there, but there have actually been rumors of the government getting involved in college football getting a playoff system, and doing something about the NFL Lockout situation.
As a big fan of both college and professional football, I hope both these issues get settled, but leave the government out of it.
The government’s first job should be to protect its nation. Worrying about a No. 3 seeded school not having a shot at the national championship game is far from that. Government officials shouldn’t worry about how big a contract is for a kid coming out of college early to play in the big leagues.
Those concerns should be left to scouts, coaches, owners, sportswriters, fans and other people, but not the government itself. If the government decides to intervene on the topic, I’m not feeling too safe.
