Simple Ways To Set Goals

Setting goals is extremely easy, although it can take some time to decide exactly what goals you should set for yourself. An easy way to begin is to first create a list of everything you would like to do in life.

The sky is the limit, and you can write down anything. As you compile the list, don’t worry if some goals are unattainable – look at your list as if it is a list of wishes you hope to realize.

This step will help you move forward toward achieving your goals, since we often give up on dreams on the only basis that we don’t believe we are able to make them become reality. You would be surprised at how many of the “impossible” things are indeed possible if one approaches them with a positive attitude and puts in the right amount of effort.

Once you have completed your list, you need to select five of those wishes to really focus on. Of course, you can choose any type of wish, but it is always a great idea to pick one goal for each area of life. For instance, you can set a goal for health, one for romance, one for spirituality, one for finances, and, finally, a personal one. However, the best way to approach goal setting is to do what you feel comfortable with, so if you prefer to select more than one goal in one sector and leave another sector goal- free, it is perfectly okay. However avoid concentrating your goals on one single area, as this will unbalance your life.

Whilst it may be tempting to choose more than 5 goals, 5 is a good number to begin with as it allows you to focus your mind on a few specific goals, and devote more of your energy to accomplishing them. If you put too many goals in the basket, you might end up feeling overwhelmed and you will give up completely.

Once you get the hang of goal setting, you can then begin to add more goals later. At that point, it will be perfectly okay to set as many goals as you wish.

If you have five picked out, you need to rewrite them in goal format. This means that you should write your goals in a positive light and in the present tense. For example, I have or I am.

This is an essential step, for it imprints in the mind what you should have as opposed to what you want to have. So writing I Will or I will have should be avoided.

When your goals are written in goal format, look at them every day, and if possible rewrite them once or twice a day to etch them in the mind. As your focus grows, so will your desire to accomplish your goals.
