Stop Procrastinating! How To Break The Habit And Avoid Stress

Procrastination can easily become a habit as it creeps in. It can erode your capacity to function effectively once it does. But this habit can be hard to break. However, with some honest self-assessment and an organized and attainable plan of attack, it can be overcome successfully.

You need to be gentle with yourself if you’ve decided to try to break this avoiding habit. It may be so ingrained that you don’t fully recognize all the ways you actually procrastinate. To start off, break down a large or complicated task into smaller parts which you can accomplish easier. Remember that the most complex or difficult tasks are just a series of smaller jobs.

Making a verbal commitment to someone else would help you in improving your time management skills and avoid procrastination. Allow others to become involved in your efforts by reviewing your progress, helping you set deadlines or evaluating your results can be very helpful. To fulfill the expectations they’re set for you, this will most likely create a commitment on your part. What you can do is sit down and map out a plan so that your time can be managed more effectively.

Reward yourself for successes along the way and don’t wait until you’ve accomplished the ultimate goal. When it comes to the reward, make sure it’s something you like to do. You can buy your favorite author’s newest book and take the time to read it. Or how about indulging in bubble baths and relaxing music?

If you’ve gotten into the habit of working late, make sure you develop a new habit of going home on time each night. You’ll find more time for yourself and have less stress if you make a commitment to avoid procrastination.
